Michael Pittman, a 30-year-old from Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to seven years in prison for trafficking over 200 illegal firearms in the region. The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported that Pittman admitted to a conspiracy to commit firearms trafficking, leading to his guilty plea in April 2025. His operation involved frequent trips to Georgia and North Carolina to procure guns, which he then advertised in the D.C. area, even showcasing them in photos on social media.
Authorities apprehended Pittman on May 30, 2024, after a police chase that ended with a crash and a retreat into the woods. Law enforcement recovered a backpack containing 16 firearms, underscoring the significant public safety risks associated with his actions, as many of these weapons ended up in the hands of convicted felons. Federal agents continue to prioritize cases like Pittman’s to combat illegal gun trafficking and its dangers to the community.
