Pro-gun lawsuits have significantly decreased since the Supreme Court’s 2022 Bruen decision, which initially prompted a surge in challenges to firearm restrictions. In the six months following Bruen, gun rights groups filed 34 lawsuits, but that number fell to just 20 in 2024, and as of June 2025, only seven new claims have been identified.
This downturn raises questions about the strategy and focus of gun advocacy organizations, as many shift their attention to appellate courts rather than initiating new cases. Despite the decline, groups like the Second Amendment Foundation remain optimistic, citing ongoing efforts to file cases at higher judicial levels and raising funds for future legal challenges amid a backdrop of political support under previous administrations.
