According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), preliminary harvest totals for Deer Hunt 2024 indicate a 5.2% increase from last year, signifying a successful nine-day gun hunting campaign. DNR State Deer Program Specialist Jeff Pritzl emphasizes that despite a slight lag after opening weekend, hunters caught up and surpassed previous totals, underscoring the ongoing need to manage antlerless deer populations.
As several hunting opportunities remain, including the current muzzleloader season and a four-day antlerless season in December, Pritzl encourages hunters to continue participating. Additionally, many counties are extending archery and crossbow seasons through the end of January, inviting the community to engage with wildlife management and contribute to the deer donation program, which has processed over 3.8 million pounds of venison for those in need over the past 24 years.
