An Adams County sheriff’s deputy is recovering after being shot in the hand by a barricaded suspect during a tense standoff on Thursday morning. The incident began when law enforcement attempted to serve a search warrant at a home located in the 20400 block of East 160th Avenue, leading to a situation that required negotiation and SWAT intervention.
While officials worked to resolve the standoff peacefully, the suspect opened fire, injuring the deputy whose condition is now reported as non-life-threatening. In response to the escalating situation, police issued a shelter-in-place order for local residents and advised on detours through the area as Brighton firefighters were also called to extinguish a fire at an adjacent outbuilding, the cause of which remains unclear. This incident is ongoing, and further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
