Dover Officials Unite Against Rising Gun Violence

Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen convenes a press conference with law enforcement and community leaders to address a surge in gun violence, highlighting the recent tragic death of 22-year-old Daniel Guzman Jr. Mayor Christiansen emphasizes the need for collective action against what he calls “senseless violence,” while Police Chief Thomas Johnson reveals that Dover has recorded 18 shootings in 2025, including two fatalities.

In an emotional plea, Guzman’s mother Apollonia Rivera expresses deep frustration over perceived negligence from city officials regarding safety measures, specifically a fence that was promised to separate troubled neighborhoods. She feels that such measures could have saved her son’s life and underscores the prevailing fear in her community about further violence. The local police chief acknowledges the challenges posed by gang-related issues and pledges to enhance communication and trust within the community as part of their strategy to combat crime.
