A Florida sheriff describes a recent shooting incident at a McDonald’s as a “McMess” after a drive-thru employee, 21-year-old Yoan Sota, allegedly shot a customer who was upset about long wait times. The altercation occurred around 3 a.m. when customers Peter Story, 19, and Nicholas Jones, 18, threatened Sota after their complaints about delays. According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, tensions escalated when the trio confronted each other inside the restaurant, leading to Sota pointing his gun in self-defense.
Sheriff Judd reported that as Sota attempted to defend himself from the two men who were trying to seize his firearm, he accidentally shot Story in the neck, resulting in a minor injury. After the incident, all three individuals fled the scene, and they were later apprehended and charged with various offenses, including tampering with evidence and disorderly conduct. Sheriff Judd emphasized that although Sota had the right to protect himself, he should have remained on-site until police arrived to handle the situation.
