A duck that once received care from staff aboard the Bibby Stockholm asylum seeker barge has found a new sanctuary in Dorchester, where she is reportedly “having the best life.” This heartwarming development comes after the barge, which housed nearly 500 men from July 2023 until November 2024, was towed away from Portland Port last month, prompting concerns for the duck’s welfare.
Wildlife conservationist Derek Davey stepped in to rescue the duck after she was spotted in Castletown, foraging for food. After a brief period of rehabilitation, she has now been successfully rehomed with a family and other domestic ducks, where she is thriving in a supportive environment. The transition highlights the surprising stories that emerge amid the backdrop of the controversial use of the barge for immigration purposes.
