Junior Economic Affairs Minister Martijn van Dam is actively engaging with Dutch hunting organizations and provincial councils to put an end to commercial duck hunts, particularly those attracting wealthy foreigners to shoot geese in the Netherlands. This initiative follows revelations that an American company is promoting these hunts as one of the world’s top hunting experiences, with luxury trips costing around $4,600 and featuring not only hunting but also tours of the scenic Dutch countryside.
Van Dam emphasizes that such hunts are ‘undesirable’ and affirms that hunting should only be conducted for specific purposes, such as mitigating hazards to aviation. Despite the legality of foreigners hunting in the Netherlands under certain conditions, he aims to tighten regulations amid growing concerns over commercialized hunting practices and their implications for wildlife management. Currently, around 871 individuals have pursued geese and ducks legally in the country.
