Elizabeth City Man Sentenced for Drug and Gun Charges

Ban Zollar Lee Jr., a 33-year-old resident of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, is sentenced to 11 years in federal prison following his conviction on drug and gun charges. Lee pled guilty on May 5th to possessing ammunition as a felon and intent to distribute methamphetamine, stemming from a police response to gunfire in August 2023 that revealed significant community safety concerns.

The incident in question unfolded on August 7th, when Elizabeth City police found multiple shell casings and damage to local businesses, highlighting the dangers posed by gun violence. Lee’s extensive criminal history and the serious nature of his crimes have led to this substantial federal sentence, aimed at addressing ongoing issues related to drug trafficking and firearm possession in the area.
