Encinitas Hosts Gun Safety Event on July 26

Encinitas City Hall is set to host a gun safety event on July 26, organized by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office alongside local police departments from Carlsbad and Oceanside. The initiative runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will offer free gun cable locks while supplies last, as well as a buyback program where residents can exchange unwanted firearms for gift cards—$100 for handguns, rifles, and shotguns, and $200 for assault weapons.

At a previous event in San Marcos, participants turned in 144 firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, highlighting the community’s engagement with gun safety measures. The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that residents can remain anonymous and are instructed to ensure firearms are unloaded and secured in their trunks until directed by law enforcement. This initiative not only promotes responsible gun ownership but also aims to remove dangerous weapons from the community.
