Endeavor Health has launched a $2 million program funded by the Department of Justice, aimed at providing crucial support for victims of violence in the Chicago area. This initiative, named “Endeavor to Heal,” is designed to combat the high rates of post-traumatic stress disorder among crime victims by offering early intervention and access to mental health services, as articulated by Dr. Ramon Solhkhah, the head of psychiatry at Endeavor Health.
Realizing the barriers faced by victims in seeking help, such as shame and lack of awareness, the program employs dedicated therapists to work alongside medical staff in emergency rooms. These therapists will not only assist patients while they are hospitalized but also provide continued support for several weeks afterward, ensuring a smoother transition to outside services. As stated by violence prevention manager Darrell Dacres, timely access to resources is critical for victims to aid their recovery and reintegration into society.
