Brendon Malone, a 36-year-old Erie resident, pleads guilty to possessing two illegal “Glock switches,” which convert semiautomatic handguns into fully automatic weapons. His guilty plea, made in U.S. District Court on November 14, is part of a broader federal investigation that has charged 26 individuals with serious drug and firearm offenses, marking this as one of the largest criminal cases in Erie history.
The devices Malone possessed are classified as machine guns under federal law, and he faces a recommended sentence of just over three years in federal prison. It’s estimated that Glock switches have been linked to numerous incidents of gun violence across the nation, raising concerns about their illegal distribution. Following his sentencing set for March 6, 2025, Malone, who has two children, expressed intentions to resume work as a welder after serving his time.
