The fall pheasant hunting season in Western New York is set to open on October 18, with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announcing the release of more than 6,100 pheasants in preparation for the event. Hunters can expect to find stocked birds at various state-managed lands, including wildlife management areas and state parks, as they gear up for the season’s opener.
In addition to following specific hunting regulations, hunters interested in certain areas like Zoar Valley and Harwood Lake must obtain special permits through a lottery system. These permits cover a single additional hunter for designated time slots, emphasizing the importance of early application, as postcards must be submitted by September 25. For a complete list of release sites and hunting regulations, hunters are encouraged to check the DEC’s pheasant hunting webpage.
