Family Demands Video Release After Police Shooting

The family of Carlos Enriquez, a 56-year-old retired Navy corpsman fatally shot by Chula Vista police, is demanding the release of all video footage related to the incident. On April 19, officers opened fire on Enriquez while responding to a family disturbance call, and his family claims he was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time, having had previous PTSD diagnoses from his military service.

Concerned about the police’s account of the shooting, the Enriquez family, through their attorney, has requested earlier access to body-worn camera and drone footage. They emphasize the importance of transparency, especially given that two of the involved officers have had previous contentious encounters concerning mental health issues. Enriquez’s loved ones describe him as a supportive family man, questioning the necessity of involving law enforcement during his mental health struggles while expressing fears that vital information about the shooting is being withheld.
