Family Fundraises to Bring Shooting Victim Home

The family of 25-year-old Jose Enrique Cartagena Chacon, who was fatally shot by Lenexa police on June 22, is raising funds to transport his body back to El Salvador for burial. As they navigate their grief, they are also demanding accountability and transparency from law enforcement, particularly seeking access to police body camera footage from the incident that has left many unanswered questions.

Chacon’s relatives have organized a fundraiser selling traditional Salvadoran pupusas as they strive to cover funeral expenses and honor a young man described as deeply loved by his community. With two Lenexa police officers placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting, the family waits for clarity on the circumstances surrounding Chacon’s death, which has ignited a call for justice among friends and supporters.
