Florida Gun Owners Favor Red Flag Laws Despite Opposition

Despite Governor Ron DeSantis’ intention to repeal Florida’s red flag law, a recent study reveals strong support for the measure among gun owners. Conducted by the nonpartisan group 97Percent, the study indicates that 72% of gun owners nationally back red flag laws, which allow courts to temporarily remove firearms from individuals deemed a risk to themselves or others, a measure championed after the tragic 2018 Parkland shooting.

The findings highlight that support for these laws transcends political boundaries, with over 50% approval in every state surveyed, including Republican strongholds like West Virginia and North Carolina. Additionally, proponents argue that such measures could significantly reduce gun suicides and prevent mass shootings, making the ongoing debate over gun rights and safety critical for both lawmakers and citizens alike.
