Florida’s SAFE Program Seizes Over 485 Pounds of Fentanyl

Florida officials announce significant progress in combating the fentanyl crisis with the SAFE program, reporting the seizure of 485 pounds of fentanyl and over 2,100 arrests in just two years. Governor Ron DeSantis highlighted the alarming statistic that the seized fentanyl is enough to potentially kill a third of the U.S. population, emphasizing the dire need for continued efforts in drug enforcement.

The SAFE program, which provides funding for local law enforcement drug operations, has led to over 200 drug operations and the prosecution of 50 individuals for murder related to overdose deaths in Seminole County. As the state allocates an additional $13 million to sustain this initiative, DeSantis urges for further funding in future budgets to address not only fentanyl but also illegal firearms and other related criminal activities.
