Forest City Man Sentenced for Drug and Gun Charges

Brian Lee Byers, a 39-year-old man from Forest City, Iowa, is sentenced to three years and nine months in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms while being an unlawful drug user. Byers pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including making false statements on firearm purchases, admitting that he owned several guns while using marijuana and methamphetamine between July 2019 and February 2020 across various counties in Iowa.

The investigation, led by the Mason City Police Department and other agencies, revealed that Byers misrepresented his drug use status when purchasing firearms. After serving his prison sentence, he faces an additional three years of supervised release, with no possibility of parole. This case sheds light on the intersection of drug use and firearm possession, raising important questions about public safety and legal accountability.
