In March 2020 alone, nearly 2 million firearms were sold, highlighting significant gaps in background checks and insufficient safety training for new owners, with reports indicating that many rushed to buy guns without prior experience or training.
Research shows that these legislative shortcomings have dire consequences; states that implemented stricter gun licensing laws saw a 40 percent decrease in gun homicides after adopting similar regulations. With the current system leaving many sales unchecked and new policies stalled in Congress, experts argue the urgent need for comprehensive reforms to prevent future tragedies linked to improperly regulated gun sales.
