Research shows that effective enforcement of firearm surrender laws is crucial to reducing domestic violence fatalities, yet many jurisdictions rely on the honor system. In Kitsap County, for instance, only 12% of individuals ordered to surrender weapons complied, while police and courts often hesitate to investigate claims due to concerns over constitutional rights. With more than 70 women killed monthly by intimate partners nationally, the need for accountability in gun surrender laws is more urgent than ever.
