Gastonia police officers fatally shot 39-year-old Jeremy Bonham after he allegedly opened fire on them with a rifle late Thursday night. The confrontation occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Hickory Hollow Road when officers responded to reports of an assault and were informed by a family member that Bonham was armed inside the home.
As officers approached, Bonham exited and began firing, prompting multiple officers to return fire, resulting in Bonham’s death. Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during this incident, which has led to an investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, with all involved officers placed on paid administrative leave.
