A 45-year-old man from Washington State is under investigation by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) after bringing a 3D-printed “ghost gun” through Wrangell Airport on July 10. The homemade handgun, which was located in his backpack, did not lead to criminal charges, allowing the man to continue his journey to Anchorage while law enforcement and the TSA conducted further inquiries.
According to Wrangell Police Chief Gene Meek, this incident marks the first time a ghost gun has been encountered in Alaska. The homemade firearm was equipped with a serial number etched by its owner and featured a chrome barrel with suppressor fittings, resembling a Glock. As regulations around ghost guns evolve, Meek emphasizes the importance of understanding TSA transport rules regarding firearms and ammunition to avoid serious legal consequences.
