Gooding County deputies fatally shoot a driver who allegedly brandished a firearm while they were responding to a call about a vehicle stuck on Highway US-30. The incident unfolded Friday afternoon, September 5, when law enforcement officers approached the scene at around 1:30 p.m., only for the driver to pull out a gun as a deputy attempted to assess the situation.
In response, both deputies discharged their weapons, resulting in the driver’s death at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed, while the Critical Incident Task Force has taken over the investigation to determine the specifics of the encounter. Fortunately, no deputies sustained injuries during the incident, prompting questions about the circumstances that led to the escalation.
