Gov. Mills Holds Off on Key Gun and Gambling Bills

Governor Janet Mills has opted to delay decisions on significant legislation, including a bill that would ban ‘ghost guns’ and another that seeks to expand online gambling for Maine’s tribal nations. The governor’s office released a list of approximately 60 bills awaiting her review, with Mills unable to veto them until state lawmakers return to Augusta, potentially in January 2026.

The proposed legislation on ghost guns, which are often untraceable and associated with crime, has sparked intense debate over public safety and gun rights. Meanwhile, the bill to expand online gambling would allow Maine’s tribes to offer casino-style games through digital platforms, a move proponents argue would boost economic opportunities but that opponents warn could exacerbate gambling addiction issues. Mills is expected to review these significant bills thoroughly before taking any action.
