Austin M. Wallace, a 20-year-old from Granite City, has been charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery after allegedly attacking a 60-year-old victim with a pellet gun. The incident took place on August 27, 2025, when Wallace purportedly approached the victim’s vehicle outside a liquor store, shot out the windows, and forced his way inside, leading to significant injuries including a broken jaw.
Surveillance footage reportedly captures the assault, showing Wallace beating the victim unconscious and stealing money and a cell phone. Although Wallace initially denied involvement, he later contended that the weapon used was only a BB gun. He remains in custody at the Madison County Jail as the investigation continues. The community is left shaken by this violent crime targeting an elderly individual.
