Guatemalan Man Gets 14 Years for Illegal Gun Trafficking

Ricardo Fermin Sune-Giron, a 34-year-old Guatemalan who entered the U.S. under a false identity, is sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for his involvement in a large-scale gun trafficking operation. Sune-Giron pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including conspiracy to traffic firearms, after being implicated in a scheme that recruited ‘straw purchasers’ to illegally buy weapons from licensed dealers in Florida. The operation saw over 1,000 firearms, including Glocks and AK-47s, trafficked overseas, with many ending up at crime scenes in countries like the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Law enforcement officials dismantled Sune-Giron’s criminal enterprise following coordinated search warrants that led agents to his Orlando residence, where they seized approximately 57 firearms, stacks of cash nearing $16,000, and additional evidence of illegal activity. The forfeiture of all seized firearms and ammunition was mandated by the court, highlighting efforts to combat illegal arms trading that poses serious threats domestically and abroad.
