A new initiative called “Project ChildSafe Salt Lake” aims to enhance firearm safety and responsible gun ownership throughout the Salt Lake Valley. Launched by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the program provides education on safe gun handling and secure storage, with local advocates emphasizing that most gun accidents can be prevented through education and awareness.
As part of the initiative, free cable gun locks will be distributed at two locations in Salt Lake City, helping to address both accidental shootings and the high rates of firearm-related suicides in Utah. Community leaders stress the importance of securing firearms and teaching children how to respond if they encounter a gun, aiming to create a culture of safety and responsibility around firearm ownership.
