Despite the Memphis Shelby Crime Commission reporting a 13.1% decrease in overall crime, the area still grapples with a high homicide rate and an increase in firearm-related crimes from over 70% to 72%. As residents express both fear and hope for their city, many believe that faith and proactive community efforts are essential for a brighter future. “I have high hopes that we will do better one day,” says local resident Erica Nesby.
