A person of interest is in custody while authorities search for a second suspect involved in an armed robbery at a Mount Vernon gas station that turned violent. The incident occurred early Friday when NYPD officers on patrol encountered two men matching the suspects’ description, leading to an exchange of gunfire after one suspect allegedly fired at the officers. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the confrontation.
Witnesses reported waking to the sound of gunshots, with one bullet striking a nearby home just feet away from residents. The robbery, captured on surveillance footage, shows the two gunmen terrorizing a gas station attendant, who described the ordeal as nearly fatal. Following the incident, police closed off the area for hours, and service on nearby Metro-North lines was briefly suspended.
