Harper Resident Shot by Police in Yard

In a tragic incident on Saturday evening, Eli Reiter, a 54-year-old resident of Harper, Oregon, was shot and killed by a deputy from the Malheur County Sheriff’s Department during a verbal conflict that escalated to physical confrontation. According to family members, the incident began when a neighbor called the police after Reiter allegedly pushed him, prompting the response from law enforcement.

The shooting occurred while Reiter was on his own property, a fact confirmed by Malheur County District Attorney Dave Goldthorpe, who has yet to provide further details amid a developing investigation. Family members also revealed that Reiter struggles with paranoid schizophrenia, adding another layer of complexity to this distressing situation.
