Hochul Addresses Gun Laws and Medicaid Concerns

In a recent interview on NY1, Governor Kathy Hochul firmly defends New York’s stringent gun laws, emphasizing their critical role in maintaining the lowest gun homicide rate among large states. Following a mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan, Hochul calls for federal reforms while highlighting the state’s success in removing over 4,300 firearms from potential misuse through enhanced red flag laws.

The governor also warns about impending Medicaid funding cuts due to new federal legislation, which could impact around 700,000 New Yorkers and potentially cost the state nearly $3 billion by 2027. Additionally, Hochul addresses issues within the cannabis licensing program, assuring support for dispensary owners wronged by regulatory measures. She states, “I don’t want them hurt… I don’t want them screwed,” underscoring her commitment to economic fairness in New York.
