The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) is gaining momentum as it focuses on enhancing deer habitats and improving overall herd quality in the state. Jeremy Brown, the DMAP program coordinator, emphasizes a collaborative approach, noting that nearly 90% of Arkansas land is privately owned, making private land management crucial to the program’s success.
This year, DMAP has achieved significant milestones, reporting a record 8,600 biological data records and 21,000 hours of deer observation, attributed to its engagement with landowners and the integration of National Deer Association biologists. The launch of a quarterly newsletter aims to raise awareness and encourage more hunters to participate, as the quality of local deer herds and habitat continues to improve across Arkansas.
