Currently, approximately one in three children lives in a home with a firearm, and studies indicate that 54% of gun owners do not secure their weapons. Advocates believe that enacting this legislation can significantly reduce children’s access to firearms and potentially lower gun-related incidents, as similar measures in other states have decreased unintentional shootings by 78%.
