Illinois Senators Propose Bill to Hold Gun Industry Accountable

Two Illinois Senators, Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin, have introduced the Equal Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act, which aims to hold gun manufacturers and sellers more accountable in legal cases related to gun violence. This proposed legislation seeks to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) of 2005, which currently shields the gun industry from lawsuits even in cases of negligence.

Duckworth emphasizes the pressing need for this reform by citing the “heartbreaking” impact of gun violence on families across Illinois and the nation. With support from over 80 members of Congress and various advocacy groups, this bill could pave the way for victims to finally gain the legal recourse they need to seek justice against negligent gun companies and dealers.
