An Independence police officer is recovering after being shot in the leg during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning. The incident began when a Tangipahoa Parish deputy attempted to pull over a suspect for a broken headlight, which escalated to gunfire, leading to a police chase that ended with the officer’s injury outside Independence City Hall.
The officer’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening, and authorities employed drones and K9 units to eventually capture the suspect. Witnesses reported seeing bullet holes in the City Hall’s front door, highlighting the serious nature of the incident. Louisiana State Police are now seeking additional information from the public to aid their investigation.
