Bow hunters eager to participate in Iowa City’s 2025-2026 deer bow hunt program can now submit their applications, with the hunt scheduled to run from September 20 through January 10, 2026. This initiative is part of the city’s Long-Term Deer Management Plan, which combines non-lethal methods with urban hunting strategies to manage the local deer population effectively.
The city encourages property owners to allow hunting on their land and has designated several city-owned properties for the hunt. Additionally, strict safety regulations are in place, such as prohibiting bow use within 150 feet of trails and residential areas unless authorized. Hunters and residents interested in contributing feedback or sharing local deer stories can do so via the city’s website or by contacting officials directly.
