The U.S. Department of Justice has indicted Andrew M. Reed, a 22-year-old from Joplin, for unlawfully possessing a firearm related to a shooting incident earlier this year. The indictment follows the recovery of a firearm with a thirty-round magazine, which police found near the scene of reported gunfire on February 15, 2025, along with spent ammunition cartridges.
Authorities identified Reed through surveillance footage from a nearby business that captured him concealing the firearm. As a convicted felon, Reed is prohibited from possessing guns under federal law, making this case significant in the ongoing efforts to address illegal firearm possession. An Assistant U.S. Attorney is prosecuting the case, which highlights the crucial role of law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, in tackling firearm-related crimes.
