A Pickaway County jury acquits 42-year-old Jason McLean of Columbus of all charges related to the fatal shooting of David Raines in Circleville in August 2024. The jury’s decision came after a multi-day trial during which the defense argued McLean acted in self-defense after Raines confronted him outside McLean’s towing business.
The case highlighted Ohio’s “stand your ground” law, which allows individuals to use deadly force without the duty to retreat if they are in their vehicle and fear for their life. McLean claimed that he shot Raines after being physically threatened, a claim that jurors ultimately found credible. The Pickaway County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet announced if any further legal action will be pursued.
