Kavanaugh Signals Supreme Court May Address AR-15 Bans

In a recent move regarding gun control, Justice Brett Kavanaugh indicates the Supreme Court may soon reconsider the constitutionality of AR-15 bans previously highlighted in Snope v. Brown. Although the court denied a request to take up the case, Kavanaugh’s concurrence suggests there is still significant debate surrounding the legality of such regulations, especially given that AR-15s are owned by an estimated 20 to 30 million Americans across 41 states.

Kavanaugh’s recognition of the AR-15’s popularity and his comments on the distinctiveness of semi-automatic rifles compared to automatic firearms may foreshadow future rulings in favor of Second Amendment rights. He predicts that new petitions on the issue will arise within the next couple of years, sparking optimism among gun rights advocates for a legal victory as the Supreme Court continues to navigate high-stakes gun legislation.
