Kennedy Dismisses Gun Control Calls After NYC Shooting

Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana opposes calls for new gun control measures in the wake of a deadly shooting in New York City, stating there are already “hundreds” of laws on the books. During an appearance on Fox News, Kennedy expressed sympathy for the victims but emphasized the need for what he termed “more idiot control,” rather than additional legislation targeting firearms.

His comments come shortly after the tragic incident, where a gunman killed five and injured one before taking his own life. While Kennedy suggests existing regulations are sufficient, Democratic Representative Ritchie Torres has called for a ban on certain semi-automatic firearms, emphasizing that even stringent laws in New York cannot prevent such violence. Statistics reveal that rifles were involved in 523 homicides in 2023, making the debate over gun control critical and timely.
