Lancaster Man Gets Up to 15 Years for Police Chase

A Lancaster man is sentenced to serve up to 15 years in state prison after being convicted of fleeing from law enforcement in a stolen vehicle while armed with an illegal firearm. Dante James Ashford received a sentence of six years and nine months to 15 years following a jury’s guilty verdict, with Judge Merrill Spahn emphasizing the need for accountability to protect the public from such “dangerous conduct.”

During the sentencing, Ashford’s defense attorney pointed to his troubled past, which included experiences of abuse and homelessness, as factors deserving consideration. However, prosecutors argued that his prior trauma does not excuse the crime, highlighting Ashford’s history of poor decisions, including his possession of a gun while under supervision for another offense. The case reflects ongoing concerns over gun violence and criminal behavior in the region.
