Lawmaker Proposes Abolishing Concealed Carry Permits

Pennsylvania State Rep. Aaron Bernstine proposes a significant shift in gun laws by introducing House Bill 1412, which seeks to abolish the requirement for concealed carry permits in Pennsylvania. Advocating for Second Amendment rights, Bernstine argues that residents should be able to carry firearms without needing to register with county sheriffs, emphasizing that the state Constitution protects this right. He contends that 13 states with no concealed carry permits demonstrate that such laws do not correlate with increased violence.

However, this proposal has sparked concern among gun safety advocates. Rob Conroy from CeaseFire Pennsylvania warns that allowing more individuals to carry firearms without permits or training could lead to dangerous situations. While Bernstine believes his bill will succeed, uncertainty remains regarding whether Governor Wolf will approve the measure. This debate highlights a broader national conversation about gun rights and public safety, making it a critical issue for Pennsylvania residents.
