Lewiston Launches Safety Sessions to Tackle Youth Gun Violence

In response to escalating gun violence among teens, Lewiston is launching a series of safety information sessions aimed at educating parents and children. The initiative follows multiple incidents, including a shooting at a back-to-school event last August, which left residents like Amran Osman alarmed and calling for community action.

The Lewiston Police Department reports 34 shooting incidents in 2024, emphasizing that even non-injury incidents are unacceptable. Two safety sessions are scheduled for February 25 and 27, where issues including substance abuse and community safety will be discussed. Local leaders stress the importance of open lines of communication, as they seek to engage citizens in finding solutions to this pressing concern.
