Lexington Sees Decline in Gun Violence Statistics

Recent data indicates a notable decline in gun violence in Lexington, with reported firearm assaults at just 14 this year, the lowest number since 2021. This downward trend is significant as the city prepares to observe National Gun Violence Awareness Day this Friday, highlighting efforts to curb these incidents.

In 2024, Lexington registered a remarkable reduction in both shootings and homicides, achieving the lowest figures since 2015. Specifically, homicides plummeted from 44 in 2022 to 22 last year, while non-fatal shootings nearly decreased by 60%. This data underscores a critical shift in the community’s safety landscape, encouraging further examination of the causes behind the improvement.
