Austin police have arrested 55-year-old Harold Newton Keene, the suspect in a shooting that occurred at the Austin Public Library, shortly after he was linked to an earlier incident on a CapMetro bus. The library shooting, which happened around noon, left one person injured, while Keene is also accused of firing a bullet that grazed a passenger on the bus just hours before the library incident.
Witnesses reported that Keene pointed a gun at several individuals on the bus, including a child, before firing. He now faces 10 charges, including three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, highlighting rising concerns over public safety in places frequented by families. Legal discussions surrounding gun rights in libraries are ongoing, as the state law permits handguns in public libraries, despite calls for stricter regulations.
