The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) launches a proactive initiative targeting repeat gun offenders, aiming to enhance community safety. More than a third of those arrested for gun-related offenses this year were previously convicted felons, highlighting the agency’s focus on individuals with violent histories through its Prohibited Firearms Possessors Initiative.
Among those prosecuted is 20-year-old Hassan Muhammed, who, despite a previous conviction for rape, was found carrying a firearm shortly after his release. This initiative not only seeks to imprison those with a track record of violent crime but has also contributed to a significant decline in homicides this year, with a reported 30 percent drop compared to previous years. LMPD officials emphasize their commitment to keeping the streets safer by addressing the root causes of gun violence.
