Local Advocate Speaks Out on Gun Violence Impact

In a poignant appeal during Gun Violence Awareness Month, local advocate LaVenda Vann shares her family’s heartbreak after losing multiple loved ones to gun violence. Speaking before the St. Louis County Board, Vann emphasizes the urgent need for community recognition and action, stating, “One less murder, one less suicide, one less accident, one less victim” can save lives in settings where violence tragically occurs, such as churches and neighborhood events.

Vann advocates for essential gun safety measures, including the use of gun locks and secure storage, highlighting the broader need for mental health support for those affected by violence. As part of the awareness campaign, Enger Tower is lit orange to symbolize solidarity, encouraging community members to show their support throughout June. Vann’s call to action stresses the importance of reaching out to individuals struggling with grief, stating, “It might be a life that you can save.”
