A group of local men in Owensboro is taking decisive action against youth violence through an upcoming event titled “The Real Cost,” scheduled for February 23 at the Boys & Girls Club. This initiative brings together speakers like Terrell Buckner, who spent over 17 years in prison, along with Ike Roby and Gerald Young, to share their transformative life experiences and empower young individuals facing similar challenges.
The event, which was organized in less than 24 hours following a surge in community violence, aims to create an ongoing mentorship program that encourages involvement from adults and community leaders. “We’re trying to create a village where they can focus,” Buckner states, emphasizing the need for collective action to change narratives and provide youths with viable options for the future.
