Lomira Man Dies in Hunting Accident on Opening Day

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office identifies 24-year-old Michael Kottke as the man who died from a suspected unintended firearm discharge during the opening day of gun deer hunting season. Kottke was discovered near a tree stand in Oakfield late on November 22 after a 911 call reported the incident, which is now under investigation by both local authorities and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Kottke, a resident of Lomira, leaves behind a wife and a young son, along with several other family members. Known for his passion for outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, and golfing, his tragic death serves as a somber reminder of the safety risks associated with hunting season. The circumstances surrounding his fatal accident remain unclear, prompting community concern and calls for awareness on firearm safety.
