A man in his 30s is shot and killed by Nassau County police after allegedly pointing a BB gun at officers responding to a domestic violence call. The situation escalated shortly after midnight when authorities were summoned to a home in Carle Place by a 911 call from the man’s mother, who claimed her son, James Rosano, was intoxicated and refusing to leave.
Despite attempts by officers to de-escalate the situation, Rosano allegedly pointed the weapon at them, leading one officer to fire, resulting in Rosano’s death shortly after being taken to a hospital. Officials later confirmed that the weapon was a BB gun, igniting discussions on the critical and often perilous decisions that law enforcement must make in tense scenarios. Body camera footage is being reviewed by the state attorney general’s office as part of the investigation.
